RC: We were in a great Creed debate/mystery.
Steve: There's really no real big mystery, Pearl Jam.
RC: Pearl Jam wannabees.
Scott: There's no mystery, Live.
RC: We're just gonna rip off a sound and go with it. But anyways,
we're with the members of Unwritten Law. Welcome back to
Rock Circus Steve and PK. It's been about 4 years since the
self-titled black album to Elva. Were you writing
songs in that time or were you touring Scott?
Scott: Yeah, we're always writing songs. We have our whole next
record done With Elva we actually recorded the album twice,
unexpectedly. We recorded it with a guy, John Shanks, and it
didn't come out the way we wanted it. So we recorded it with
our friend Miguel from Sublime Long Beach All-Stars, and it
came out the way we wanted it to. We were supposed to release
it in November. We didn't have the artwork done, we didn't
have the thanks done, we didn't have any of that stuff done
so we had to push it back to the end of January. It's kind
of good that it happened because the whole September 11th
thing just killed everything and it wasn't a good time for
anybody. If it would have come out then it would have been
bad and you know, everything happens for a reason. We're
just stoked that it's out now.
RC: You said the next album's in the can, did you write any songs
about Sept. 11th for the next CD? Did anything kind of
inspire you?
Scott: Inspire, no, I was disgusted. I was uninspired, if any-
thing, by the whole thing. It's not something that I want to
remember, personally.
RC: No, there's nothing to really overcome except a lot of pain.
So what's up, you didn't like the first mix on the first take
of Elva? It's always the guitar players (jokingly).
Steve: No, it just didn't sound like us. It was way overproduced
if you want to get technical. There was way to many tracks
they made us do like hundreds of tracks on the song. When all
and all you put it together it didn't sound like a cohesive
band. We didn't have the Unwritten Law sound. So we decided
to redo it with someone like Miguel who's more adapt to us.
He was more a part of our crowd so it worked out.
RC: Now PK this was your first album to record on with them. How
was that? Were you a great influence on this?
PK: I have a bit o finput here on this. It was insane, it was
kind of a crazy process. The whole recording thing and all.
But I learned a lot from it, definately.
(Scott left the room and walks back in mooning the camera)
PK: Great Ass!
RC: There you go ladies some Scott Russo ass.
PK: Definately makes me look forward to the next one though, for
sure.
RC: Cool, you're a dynamic individual from when I first met you
so I'm sure it seeps into the CD. This CD has more meat on
it, more hooks on it, than a butcher's claw. "Seein' Red" is
doing real well for you on the radio play.
Scott: That's, by far, not the best song on the CD too. So we're
stoked that people like that song.
RC: I like "Elva" a lot too, the title song. You have some
acoustic work on this, was that from doodling around on the
back of the bus?
Steve: That's exactly what it's from, just jamming. Everything is
written acoustically so it just lends itself to it.
RC: So "Elva", was that written a while ago?
Scott: I went to Australia for New Year's Eve 2001. Me and my
friends Nick and Phil from a band called Grinspoon...
RC: Yeah, we've had them on the show.
Scott: There awesome. They're my favorite band. Grinspoon and
Sublime, if you don't like them you suck. So I went down
there and that's what we do. We get drunk and high and we
write songs. So that song was inspired by my friends in
Australia. So we wrote it and put it together and I'm glad
you like it, cool.
RC: Great song, I think there's like 6 or 7 songs on here that
could cross over. I know you don't want to hit the pop
market.
Scott: We don't wanna talk anout that. We don't wanna talk about
Fight Club ever. That's the first and second rule.
(laughing w/ the band)
RC: Well thanks guys, right now here's "Seein' Red" off of Elva.
And you'll be seein' red after this video cause it kicks
ass!
