RC: RC's down at Nick's Fat City. We're with the
members of Reveille, a bunch of bad ass mother
f***ers from Boston, I must say. This new CD Bleed
the Sky, it's the sh**. I really like the title
track. Who did the guitar outros.
Greg: I did that one.
RC: What did you use on that one, like a flange or an
echo?
Greg: At the very end of the song, it's just a super
phaser actually. The actual outro starts on the
very last note, so you can't hear most of it. And
so then I was just messing around with Protools
with our engineer. So we just created this whole
really atmospheric part which everyone says sounds
like the Crow at the very end of the song you know,
when he's up on the building playing the guitar.
Steve: ... with the echo and everything, it sounds like
it.
RC: Yeah, his lyrics are sick on that song too. You've
got some great lyrics, you've really broadened
you're horizens from Laced to this one. Which
"The Pheonix" video was great, we played it a bunch
to help you guys out. But you brought in a
different producer for this, Howard Benson, I
believe. I noticed, in between the crunches and the
the punches of the guitars, you have a lot more
subtle nuances that are a little more broadened
then they were in Laced. Did anyone help you
with that?
Carl: We just felt like the first record was kind of
bare. It's kind of straight, two guitars, bass,
vocals, and drums, and this was one to kind of
experiment a little bit.
RC: Who was the one that hooked up the Protools?
Steve: Our producer, we did more programing and layering
and everything on this CD to try to get more
atmosphere.
J. Wilson: A lot more of the samples and grooves were a
lot easier to meld in to time when we used the
Protools.
Drew: I think just all around we had a better feeling
going in to the studio this time. After releasing
the album and touring a year and a half with bands
like Static-X, huge bands, Machinehead, and
everything. Just playing every night with these bad
ass bands and stuff, you grow so much.
RC: Oh yeah, you're list is quite impressive, a lot of
great mentors.
J. Wilson: We just had a much better, clearer picture,
as to what we wanted to accomplish with the record
and the direction that we wanted to go in. So I
think that that shows.
RC: Now the video, that's some slamming sh**. What was
it, like a hundred degrees out that day? The same
people on the same set all day?
Drew: The night before there were like tons of people
showing up.
RC: Was that in Florida?
Drew: No, lower Massachusetts, a place called Song of
Serena, it was cool. We just had all the fans come
down and had a good time all day, goofing off and
stuff, it was cool.
Carl: Those fans were there for like 16 hours, they made
the video look cool. There's only so much cool
looking that we can do, so the fans actually made
the video come to be what it is, it was cool.
RC: Yeah, the skaters and the bikers and sh**.
Greg: They did a lot more work than we had to do.
Whenever it was hot outside and we were done doing
our shoot we would just go inside and get away from
the sun. But they had to stay out there, sitting on
the steps all day, baking in the sun. So we all
totally thank them for coming out.
RC: Was somebody hosing them down I hope?
Drew: We had water cannons in the video, towards the
end.
RC: What were you guys standing on, when you were
bouncing?
Carl: Cars.
RC: Yeah, that was bad, intense shots.
Greg: It was hard to balance on top of those things.
Drew: You want a work out, jump around on cars for a
couple of hours, you're f***ing legs are killing
you.
RC: It was like those Mexican low riding cars, but that
was a very intense effect for the video. Are you
guys going to be doing another video soon?
Drew: We're getting ready to release another single
within the next couple of weeks, but I'm not
exactly sure what our plans are for the another
video.
RC: What's the single?
Drew: We're not sure, it's still up in the air.
RC: Did you guys all just graduate this year or the
year before?
Carl: I'm 22, so I graduated in 98'.
RC: Oh, that would make me look like an ass. No, I read
in the press kit a lot of you were 18 or 19, still
younger.
Drew: We all range from 19 to 22 years old. So some of
us have been out for a while.
RC: How did you hook up in Boston, what was the
catalyst? I'm sorry, I've never interviewed you
guys before so excuse the redundant questioning.
Carl: We all did go to high school together.
Drew: We lived in seperate communities and stuff but we
all went to the same high school. We ended up just
meeting and goofing off, a regular highschool band.
We just started taking it more seriously over time.
We made a demo, sent it out to everyone in the
book, got a call back, got our record shopped, and
after that it's all...
RC: That's cool sh**, you see bands, if there's bands
out there working, you could do it like they do it.
Were you guys practicing like 5 days a week?
Carl: All we did was play.
Drew: Every chance we got.
Steve: We would have kids down in the basement. There
were like 10 kids at first, then 20, then we played
a show in the driveway for like a hundred kids. It
was snowballing all the time.
RC: And you can get feedback from them because they let
you know.
Steve: Yeah, they tell us if we suck so...
Drew: We all live out in the woods so there's nothing to
do, so we just play music all the time.
RC: That's the best thing to do, the best way to pass
the time. I'ld like to thank you guys, it's been
cool having you on the show.
