Gigz Giger Producer/Host
In fifteen years of broadcasting, Rock Circus has kicked it with:
|
Gigz's passion for music started when he was three and saw Buddy Rich live on the Johnny Carson Show. From the age of three to ten he wanted a drum set which was never realized but would later be fulfilled with a guitar. Gigz started practicing magic at 4 and later traded his magic practice in for a guitar in the 11th grade. He started hanging out with musicians getting an early sense of the music world. Gigz's DJ'ed and promoted music while being a DJ at Pittsburgh's Point Park College Radio Station. In his spare time Gigz watched MTV when MTV actually played videos. He watched as the music video world was born and honed his skills mastering the guitar.
During the mid 80's he did guitar teching for some of the best hard rock bands in Pittsburgh. Gigz also gets involved with Synister Mynister's hours at PCTV, Pittsburgh's first cable access channel. Synister Mynister, a show about underground music videos, was ahead of its time in Pittsburgh. He was also featured in several music videos that aired on the show playing the guitar.
In the early 90's, Gigz hooks up with a publication called Rock-N-Roll Reporter. He starts reviewing music in late 1991 for the publication. Gigz starts interviewing for the Magazine. Because of Gigz's musical abilities he and the musicians hit it off really well. Gigz loves musicians and musicians love Gigz. Rock-N-Roll Reporter starts to grow, thanks in part to Gigz's cutting edged interviews. The publication branched out to national acts. In 1993 the publication now wanted to start its own video show. Hence the Rock-N- Roll Circus was born. Rock-N-Roll Circus starts to intertwine with national acts and underground scenes, filling gaps where there was no new rock station or outlets in Pittsburgh. The Rock Circus vision was born at a time when everyone had tunnel vision. Gigz helps build Rock-N-Roll Reporter to a level where Gigz is able to stay on stage with The Allman Brothers. Gigz interviews such icons as Ace Freheley, Toni Iommi, and Billy Sheehan. He also helps gives greater visibility to such new acts Silverchains, Collective Soul, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
Gigz becomes music editor at Rock-N-Roll Reporter. This can be attributed to his vast knowledge of bands, music history and the national and local music scene. This continues through the 1995 untill Gigz Giger and the Reporter come to an artistic bypass and Gigz wants to devote more time to the video show. At this point the interviews are pretty much non-stop for Rock Circus. No longer being a part of the Rock-N-Roll Reporter and with the onset of Rolling Stones Variety show, Gigz felt it was only appropriate to change the show name. Rock-N-Roll Circus was simply changed to Rock Circus. A new rock station is finally born in Pittsburgh named THE FORCE. Gigz made several radio appearances with Rock Circus cameras. Gigz becomes a prime source of rock information for the station with no acknowledgement of his assistance. Having come to a realization that there was little professional respect for his talent, Gigz ceases assistance to focus on Rock Circus.
Gigz then briefly wrote for PM, a glossy magazine. Due to lack of funding PM plummets to its untimely death. He also writes for City Paper between Rock Circus interviews. As time passes Rock Circus credibility soars with the labels. Gigz gets in back stage getting exclusive footage of national touring bands. He's constantly buried with videos that are sent from major labels to get their band ai/ rplay. Gigz also did a teen dance show on UPN for a local underage dance club. After this dance show Gigz Giger renews his desire and focus to make Rock Circus, the best.
Gigz Giger is the creator, producer, and co-host of the Rock Circus Video Show. For nearly 10 years Mr. Giger has kept the concept, and the vision of Rock Circus. His target audience, Pittsburgh's Youth. Since Rock Circus was born, many music video shows have done just what Gigz Giger realized years ago... "the young people of America want something new that they have some personal connection to." His show has reached the youth of Pittsburgh.
The show is one that has and will continue to & quote;. go with the flow& quote;. Hail, hail Rock Circus!
Aside from music, I love reading books! I learned at an early age they are a fascinating escape. I can't encourage teens and young adults enough about the importance of reading.
I believe it gives us perspective of our place in the world. And not to mention procures thought, insight, and elevates your conciousness. I believe it was the Read-A-Thon in grade school when I started reading stories, biographies, and fantasy. In highschool I appreciated Greek mythology, Tolkien, and books about musicians.
In college it broadened to authors like Faulkner, Poe, and Hemmingway to name a few. I became aware of philosophy, psychology, and things of esoteric nature. Through the years I have read many authors with brilliant minds.
Some of my favorite reads have been Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit; Kurt Vonnegutt Jr.'s Slaughterhouse 5, Sirens of Titan, Breakfast of Champions, Timequake, and Bluebeard; Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Richard Cole's Stairway To Heaven; Ayn Rand's the Fountainhead; the complete work of Edgar Allen Poe; Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test; and author unknown, Beowulf. So pick up a book and indulge your sensory receptors.
