RC: 5 4 3 2
Custom: 1
RC: Are you there? Are you there?
Custom: 1, 1 you forgot 1.
RC: 1 is that what we're on?
Custom: Nah, it goes in 5 4 3 2 1.
RC: I thought you always kept the 1 quiet.
Custom: They don't know the 1, they don't know they're mathematics.
It's 5 4 3 2 1 go...
RC: But they've always kept the last 2 count out on every set I've
been on.
Custom: They're just pretending they don't know they're arithmetic,
but you know you're math I know you know you're math.
RC: Yeah, I did quite well in calculas in college, I think, that was
a ways back. Anyway its a great pleasure of Rock Circus to come
to the Post Gazzete Pavilion. We're hanging with the man Custom
who's got a new band out right, pretty new, or have you been
together for a while?
Custom: 2 months, which would be a long term relationship if it was
a girlfriend.
RC: Really 2 months!
Custom: Yeah!
RC: You put this music together while working on some independent
films I understand.
Custom: Yeah
RC: Is that what inspired you, independent films?
Custom: No I was always making music and then I made a little film
and then they liked it and I made a bigger film. I was working
on the soundtrack for the bigger film and some people got the
tape and then the record companies got the tape and they gave
us some money and here we are.
RC: Here you are ... Now you're one of the launching artists on
Artists' Direct, for them to solely promote and distribute the
album, how did that work out with them guys?
Custom: I used to be with another record label and we had diferences
so then I went back and with the first round there were 10
companies that wanted to sign me. So I went back and saw a few
of them and Artist Direct was Ted Field's new company and he's
the one who started Interscope and so obviously his track record
was impecable and he's a very cool guy. He stayed in contact
with me after I signed with the other guys. Then he started this
new label and it was pretty good timing.
RC: They promote a lot of bands, I guess they're like a sell point for
a lot of bands for merchandising.
Custom: Yeah, that's another division of the thing, but I don't
understand it.
RC: They're like the new division, the new department .
Custom: Yeah, I'm like the guinea pig.
RC: Are you looking to be the CEO of that department someday?
Custom: NO
RC: Are you thinking of going back to or continuing with filmmaking?
Custom: I think if you like telling stories you tell them however
you can.
RC: Yeah right, music and film.
Custom: It's all the same.
RC: Are you as sexual in your films as your are with your lyrics in
your music? It seems they're some great sexual inunendos, I got
4 daughters brother so I...
Custom: But your like 12...
RC: I wish, I got a 16 year old.
Custom: No, and you had the 16 year old when you were like 5.
RC: Yeah, something like that, I was very mature sexually.
Custom: That's good, congratulations.
RC: I've heard a lot of flak back from parents, did you know you were
causing some waves about such lyrical content?
Custom: Actually, never even considered it cuz it's not like I'm
talking about death and torture and child molestation or
something. Just saying a girl likes...saying a girl is entitled
to her sexuality and that I never want a daughter.
RC: What age do you think a girl is at the peak of her sexuality or
begining?
Custom: I don't know, I'm in intense testing and research on that
particular question right now.
RC: We'll check up on the next interview. Have you had any parents
come back at you?
Custom: Yeah know, because the basic truth is men, like you, are
pigs and you've used your ways to get into girls pants that
you can't stand but you know, she's hot. And although you're
much more mature and civilized now you know that if you have a
daughter there's some dick exactly like you doing the same thing.
RC: Yeah, there's many dogs out there.
Custom: It's just inherent, it's in our genetic code.
RC: So you were kind of looking at this as an icebreaker with the
parents.
Custom: You know the thing of meeting parents, everyone has had to
and like you're sitting and saying you're daughter's so sweet
and I love her very much but really you're thinking...
RC: I just want to bang her...
Custom: And her dad is looking at you man to man going I know you
just want to bang her and don't even give me the bull****.
RC: I know what you're intentions are son...
Custom: He knows, he knows and you can't just straight up lie cuz
he knows.
RC: Yes we do know, now the video, why did it get banned from MTV?
I see teens having sex on TV all the time, isn't that kind of
ambiguous?
Custom: Yeah know we said we'll reshoot, we'll make a joke of the
song like hey mister I really like your tractor or some
metaphor like that. They were like no because its been so
popular on radio for 4 months and the kids already know its
intent and its some woman hating anthem and we're not going
to support it.
RC: That's bull**** basically, but what can you do? Are you going
to work on another video for them?
Custom: We just shot another video for "Beat Me". We shot in Brooklyn,
NY. We have 4 models from the most recent Sports Illustrated
Swimsuit Edition, Victoria Secrets models, and we have good
cars.
RC: Any #s?
Custom: #s, they were right there.
RC: You're a man that doesn't let anything get in the way.
Custom: Well yah know its New York, you got to just go...
I'm cute your cute lets go.
(Gigz's cell phone rings)
Custom: Yeah wanna take that?
RC: No thats OK.
Custom: It could be your daughter.
RC: (laughing)He wants to meet my daughter, you better be talking
mariage brother.
Custom: Oh definately Mr., I'm definately gonna marry her.
RC: Sure Mr. Giger... Do you have any children?
Custom: Not that I know of?
RC: Any plans to procreate?
Custom: I'm a small child myself.
RC: It's good to keep that small child in yah so you can relate
to your kid.
Custom: I can't take care of plants or goldfish. I think that you
have to go, goldfish, turtle or some kind of amphibeous
creature, then you go into the mammals like a cat or dog.
RC: Hamster
Custom: Start small with the rodents then go onto the dog spectrum
and if you can deal with that then you have some of the
capacity, but I wouldn't make it that far.
RC: Well, we'll let you go, your next video...
Custom: Beat Me, directed by Kevin Kirsley.
RC: You didn't direct it?
Custom: No because I was such a failure the first time.
RC: Where did you learn your technique from?
Custom: Everyone... I'm a big a John Hughes fan, Ferris Bueler's
Day Off, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, etc. my kind of
stuff.
RC: Classic stuff
Custom: Doesn't sound as intelligenti.
RC: It's the perspectives of it.
Custom: It's what you feel, I like that.
RC: You didn't like the Pulp Fiction stuff, the quick fast.
Custom: It's to too, it's nifty it's great, but it's aware of itself.
John Hughes is honest, like my mom forgot my birthday and I'm a
16 year old girl and that makes me sad. I like the guy from the
other side of the tracks, unlike the cereal, hitman, killer
dude sh** ,that's easy stuff to deal with. It's hard to tell an
engaging story for 2 hours in a detention inside a library like
in The Breakfast Club.
RC: That was a phenominal work.
Custom: Unbelievable story telling.
RC: Maybe it will give Spiderman a run for its money.
Custom: I haven't seen that yet but I'm a big Marvel Comics
fan.
RC: Oh yeah, way back, The Fantastic Four.
Custom: Silver Surfer.
RC: Thanks for being on the show, appreciate it.
